HKT’s Bill Hammer participated in the Mid-Atlantic Association of Museum’s Third Annual Building Museums Symposium conference held in Washington, D.C. The event engages museum professionals, architects, planners, and other technical experts in a dynamic exchange of ideas about key issues for museum building projects. This year, a special focus was placed on “building green.” Bill’s presentation “Green Design + Historic Preservation” used HKT’s award-winning design for the 1871 Cambridge City Hall Annex as a case study to demonstrate best practices. The project is the oldest building to receive certification under the LEED program. It included the preservation and restoration of the nineteenth-century historic building façade and complete interior renovation of the building within the guidelines of the Cambridge Historical Commission and following the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED program requirements (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design).
