This federally-funded elderly housing development consisted of 20 one-bedroom units in three buildings. The sloping site enabled building into the hillside and provided on-grade access to both stories. The units are heated by a modified passive solar system supplying 60 to 70% of the heating requirements, consisting of fully glazed dormers equipped with concrete floor slabs for thermal storage. Thermostatically-operated fans distribute warm air to the three residences sharing one system, and overhangs, lattice work, and deciduous trees on the southern elevation help control heat.
